Ready to take down the tree and toss those gift boxes?

Christmas trees, holiday lights, gift wrapping and cardboard are accepted at the Monroe County Ecopark and other collection points.

The Ecopark, 10 Avalon Drive, is open from 1 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Christmas trees will be ground into wood chips to be used for landscaping. All decorations, wires, and nails should be removed before dropping off your tree.

Many municipalities will pick up Christmas trees at the curb or host their own drop-off sites. Cardboard boxes, plain wrapping paper, and tissue paper an be put in curbside recycling bins. However, ribbons and bows are not recycable.

Styrofoam and polystyrene – a type of packing material – can be recycled as long as they are clean and don’t contain tape or labels. Coffee cups, meat trays, egg cartons and packing peanuts are not recycable.
