MARISSA: THAT’S RIGHT. FIREFIGHTERS AND POLICE ARE STILL OUT HERE TRYING TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. IT IS A LITTLE HAZY AND HARD TO BREATH. — BREATHE. WE SMELL PLASTIC. THIS FIRE WAS CONTAINED FROM THE BEGINNING, SO IT DID BURN A SECTION OF THE WAREHOUSE. BUT IT DIDN’T GET THE ENTIRE BUILDING, WHICH THE OWNER SAYS IS A BLESSING. IMAGES SHOW FLAMES WRAPPING AROUND THE WAREHOUSE OF THE FRIEDMAN RECYCLING PLANT. >> IT IS NERVE-RACKING, A KID IN YOUR STOMACH AND WE ARE HOPING THE EQUIPMENT DIDN’T GET DAMAGED. MARISSA: THE FIRE BROKE OUT AROUND 6:00 P.M. THE OWNER DOESN’T KNOW HOW IT GOT STARTED. >> EVERYONE GOT OUT SAFE. THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. WE WILL ASSESS SOON ONCE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT LETS US IN. MARISSA: A SPOKESPERSON WITH ALBUQUERQUE FIRE AND RESCUE SAYING TONIGHT THAT THERE ARE NO INJURIES TO REPORT, HOWEVER THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES. >> YOU NEVER WANT TO HAVE A FIRE, BUT IT A CIRCUMSTANCE LIKE THIS, WE’RE DEFINITELY BLESSED, THAT IT APPEARS AT THIS POINT IT IS ONLY MATERIAL LOST AT THIS POINT. NO EQUIPMENT. MARISSA: THE OWNER TELLS ME HE KNOWS CLEAN UP IS GOING TO TAK A WHILE, PROBABLY FIVE DAYS, BUT WANTS TO GET UP AND RUNNING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANKFULLY TONIGHT, NO ONE WAS HURT.

Fire breaks out at recycling plant

At the same time a fire was happening in High Desert, another broke out at a recycling plant near Edith and Comanche. The fire started around 6 p.m. outside of Friedman Recycling of Albuquerque. The owner of the warehouse, Morris Friedman, said he doesn’t know how it started. “It’s a little never-racking obviously, sorta a pit in your stomach, and we’d hoping our equipment didn’t get damaged, we hope it’s just the material,” Friedman said. “We had a maintenance crew working and everyone got out safe, so that’s the most important, and we’ll be able to assess hopefully here soon, once the fire department lets us in.” A spokesperson with Albuquerque Fire and Rescue said that there are no injuries to report, however the official cause is under investigation. “You never want to have a fire, but it a circumstance like this, we’re definitely blessed, it seems like it was only material at this point, no equipment,” Friedman said.
