Man convicted of killing roommate, disposing of body in recycling bin, gets 25 years in prison

SPOKANE, Wash. – A man convicted of killing his roommate and disposing of her body in a recycling bin has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The body of 79-year-old Stephanie Standen was found on a conveyor belt on April 4, 2018, by workers at the SMaRT Recycling Center on Geiger Road.

Days later, Standen’s roommate, 54-year-old Eugene A. Jupp, turned himself into police in connection to the murder.

Jupp beat Standen to death and then put her body in the home’s recycling bin, court records state, because he didn’t own a car and had no other way to discard the evidence.

Jupp was convicted of second-degree murder on Feb. 21, and appeared last Friday before Superior Court Judge Raymond Clary to be sentenced.
