A reminder of what goes where.

When visiting the Transfer Station, the proper sorting of recyclables is as follows:

UPPER LEVEL:

CARDBOARD

Corrugated Cardboard is discarded here. To determine what is considered corrugated, look at the end of the item – you should see a wavy pattern like:

All corrugated cardboard should be flattened and no larger than 2’x2’.

Exceptions:

  • Waxed cardboard and pizza boxes should be discarded in household trash.

LOWER LEVEL:

GLASS

All glass bottles and jars should be discarded here.
Items should be rinsed and free of any food or liquids.

Exceptions:

  • Bottles or jars containing food or liquids should be discarded in household trash.
  • Lightbulbs: Should be discarded in household trash.
  • Jars with Candles: Should be discarded in household trash.
  • China, dishes, plates & bowls: Should be discarded at the Compost Station in Household Bulky.
  • Tempered Glass: Should be discarded at the Compost Station in Household Bulky.

NON-GLASS BOTTLES & CANS

Plastics #1-7, Aluminum and Tin food and beverage containers, foam meatpacking with a number stamped on it, milk and juice cartons are discarded here. All containers should be rinsed and free of food or liquid.

Exceptions:

  • Containers with food or liquid should be discarded in household trash.
  • Pots and Pans: Should be discarded at the Compost Station in Metal.
  • Plastic Toys: Should be discarded at the Compost Station in Household Bulky.

*Note: No containers that still contain pesticides/herbicides, or petroleum products should be discarded here. These items are considered Hazardous Waste and should be discarded on Household Hazardous Waste Day.

PAPER

Office, school and art paper, newspaper, magazines, catalogs, cereal and snack boxes, shoe boxes, paper egg cartons, hardcover, and paperback books are discarded here.

Exceptions:

  • Packing material/paper is discarded in household trash.
  • Construction/Resin Paper: Should be discarded in household trash or at the Compost Station in Household bulky.

ITEMS NOT RECYCLABLE

  • All Styrofoam should be discarded in household trash.
  • All plastic bags should be discarded in household trash. If you use a bag to discard other waste items, please put your bag in one of the garbage cans provided by the dumpsters.
