IDEM Boosts Indiana Recycling With $1 Million in Grants

Recently, 1 million dollars in grant funding from the state was awarded to eight Indiana organizations, including two in Marion County, for projects that increase recycling efforts.

The Department of Environmental Management’s Recycling Market Development Program Manager Deanna Garner says the program was established in the 1990’s to better manage solid waste by developing markets for recycling.

“It kind of helps involving manufacturers in the creations of new products that are made from recycling materials, says Garner.”

The grants are part of the program’s continued effort to help businesses establish or expand recycling efforts. The money is expected to improve processes for curbside recyclables, plastics, cardboard and e-waste from municipal solid waste by almost 6,700 tons per year.
