LPS schools recognized for recycling efforts

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The City of Lincoln recognized 50 LPS schools for their recycling and composting efforts at Pound Middle School on Thursday.

Mayor Chris Beutler welcomed the schools into the Recycle Lincoln Leadership Recognition Program.

The program was started to reward organizations for their recycling efforts.

“In terms of educating people, educating people older than yourself, continuing the drive towards sustainability and building a world that will sustain itself,” said Beutler.

Pound has the second highest diversion rate, at 75 percent.

To this day, the LPS recycling program has kept more than 21.2 million pounds of material out of the landfill.
