It provides a transparent and reliable approach towards calculation of pre- and post-consumer material shares.

“The scheme recognizes equitable use of recycled plastics in products,” said: Gian de Belder, Technical Director – R&D Packaging Sustainability at P&G and Advisory Board Chairman at RecyClass, he added:

“The advantage of this certification is that any company which plays a part in the value chain and holds custody of the recycled plastics including but not limited to compounders, converters, blow moulders and brand owners, may be granted such a certification.”

Furthermore, it guarantees the origins and traceability of recycled material and uses the percentage-based recycled content calculation approach that is verified throughout the entire value chain. This is ensured via the Chain of Custody ISO 22095 as well as the Recycled Plastics EN 15353:2006 standards, on which the certification is based. The transparency of the scheme is additionally warranted via the system of the third-party certification audits.

The certification was established earlier this year and it is now fully operational thanks to the recent release of the audit scheme as well as the implementation of the Certification’s Quality Management Systems and Processes. Its goal is to provide a harmonized and transparent assessment of the recycled content shares for companies looking for making reliable environmental claims.

Any company interested in being certified can contact the RecyClass accredited auditors.
