Recycling centers in Northern Michigan want to remind people to properly dispose of their PPE.
Centers have seen disposable masks and plastic gloves in people’s recycling.
They say if you recycle masks or leave them out in a parking lot, someone has to touch them, and if they’re used, they are considered medical waste.
“As of right now there is no recycling for the PPE for the disposable masks or the gloves,” said Missaukee County Recycling Center Site Coordinator Nicole Gallop. “The proper way to do it is just throw them in the garbage for now.”
If you want to reduce your waste, the recycling center recommends wearing a reusable cloth mask.
