Different towns & cities have different rules when it comes to trash collection on the holidays – even which holidays they’re off.

Here’s a list of the changes by county.

Unincorporated Lee County, Bonita Springs, Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach

There will be no garbage, recycling or yard waste collections on Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25 or New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1. Collections will be delayed by one day for the remainder of each week.

Collections normally scheduled for Wednesday will be picked up on Thursday. Thursday’s collections will take place on Friday and Friday’s collections will be picked up on Saturday. Regular collections resume Monday, Jan 6.

The Waste-to-Energy facility in Buckingham will be open to accept waste from 6:30 am – 6 pm both Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Jan. 31. All other Solid Waste facilities and offices will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan.1.

Remember, plastic, glass and metal containers from your holiday festivities are recyclable. Plastic silverware, aluminum foil, soiled paper plates and napkins are not.

Residents can drop off leftover oil from deep frying turkeys at the Topaz Court Solid Waste Annex for no charge.

Christmas Trees that have had all decorations, lights, tinsel and the stand removed can be set out for collection with your yard waste. Flocked trees need to go out with your trash.

There will be NO collection services of any kind – trash, recycling, bulky items or yard waste – on Christmas Day. If your regular collection day falls on Wednesday, collection will be made on your next regularly scheduled collection day; THERE ARE NO MAKE UP DAYS. Customer Service phone lines are closed.

Regular collection services will occur on New Years Day. If you have any questions, please call Utility Billing and Customer Service at (239) 252-2380.

CHRISTMAS TREES
Single family residences with curbside collection service may place Christmas trees curbside on their regularly scheduled yard waste collection day and the tree will be collected free of charge. Trees must be free of all decorations including lights, tinsel, ornaments, etc. Do not wrap trees in plastic. Trees over six feet in length must be cut in half.

Trees should be placed curbside before 6:00 a.m. on your yard waste collection day (but no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the evening prior).

Multi-family complexes – those with dumpster and compactor service – contact your property management. Do not place trees in dumpsters or compactors.

Christmas trees may also be taken to one of Collier County’s Recycling Drop-off Centers at no charge.

Christmas gift boxes can be reused or be placed in your recycling cart. Cardboard boxes will only be recycled if broken down flat. Cut large boxes in a size not to exceed 3 feet by 3 feet. Flatten and place small boxes into your recycling cart. Make sure the cardboard does not stop other recyclables from being emptied. Remove all paper and/or packing material. You may place large flattened cardboard next to your recycling cart on the day your recycling is collected. Remember that if you choose not to break down your boxes or place them in your recycling cart, they will not be recycled.

Most wrapping paper is fully recyclable and may be placed in your curbside recycling cart. Wrapping material that is not recyclable and must be disposed of in the trash include:

– RibbonWrapping Paper
– Bows
– Tissue Paper
– Flocked wrapping paper
– Foiled wrapping paper
– Glittered wrapping paper
