Volunteers needed for recycling effort at Albany events

ALBANY – The Zero Waste Capital District coalition is looking for volunteers to help collect recyclable items and food scraps at a number of upcoming festivals in the city.

The group aims to educate vendors at events like Albany’s Jazz Festival on Sept. 7 on ways to recycle properly and keep food scraps for composting rather than landfills.

The group will hold training classes during the afternoon of Jazz Fest and then help clean up when the Corning Preserve concert ends during the evening.

Subsequent efforts will be made at Veg Fest, which will be held Sept. 8 at the Albany Capital Center; The Sheridan Hollow Block Party, which will be held Sept. 14 on the 100 block of Sheridan Ave.; and at LarkFest, which will be held on Lark Street on Sept 21.

Would-be volunteers for the first three events should contact Tina Lieberman at tlieberm1@gmail.com and volunteers for LarkFest should Nichole Baldwin at baldwinn18@gmail.com.
